Ten Taylor University students and two faculty members will travel to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah from January 24-31 to get a sneak preview of films that audiences may see in 2010.
The group will earn three credits in Seminar in Independent Film as well as participate in theWindrider Forum, a faith & film discussion group that meets during the festival. Media Communication assistant professor Kathy Bruner, who is teaching the course, said, “Last year was such an amazing opportunity for our students to celebrate the spirit and art of independent film. And last year, a Taylor graduate was the producer of the best short film at Sundance, so that was a great surprise. We are so excited to attend again this year.”
Senior Jonathan Friday (pictured above), is very excited to be attending. “For two weeks in January, the entire American film industry focuses its attention on a tiny town in Utah. And this year, we’ll be in the middle of it all!”
Jonathan will use this site to chronicle his experiences and excitement at Sundance as he sees films, attends class sessions at Mountain Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Park City, and participates in filmmaker Q&As and film seminars.
For all of us film buffs that surf for Sundance from the warmth of our homes and couches, we may hope to grasp some aspect of Sundance by downloading the iPhone app, followingtwitter.com/sundancefest (Joan Rivers and David Hyde Pierce will guide conversation), accessing youtube.com/sff, or through Sundance Selects video-on-demand channel. But none of this can compare to the access that Jonathan and the Taylor University group will get by being “on the mountain.”
So, please check back often to read and comment on Jonathan’s tales from the mountain.
